Antonio Banderas finally explains why he left Hollywood

Antonio Banderas is reflecting on her decision to leave Hollywood for Spain.

In a new interview with People magazine, the 65-year-old actor said that he "always" knew he would leave Hollywood for Spain.

“Those were beautiful, exciting years. But I always had this sense of provisionality that it was not going to last my whole life,” Antonio told the outlet.

“I knew that Málaga was there, my hometown. I was not supposed to be in Malibu, but in Málaga,"  added the Desperado star.

For those unversed, Antonio moved to the United States in 1995 after falling in love with now ex-wife Melanie Griffith.

At the time, the American actress was already mother to two kids, son Alexander Bauer and daughter Dakota Johnson.

Antonio and Melanie tied the knot in May 1996. Their daughter, Stella, was born in September of the same year.

The two parted ways in June 2014 after 18 years of marriage. Despite their separation, Antonio and Melanie have remained close over the years.

The Mask of Zorro star recently described Melanie as one of his “best friends.” 

“When I go to Los Angeles, we get together anyway, we got a lot of fun,” he said of reuniting with his ex. “We laugh and we just … It’s a very healthy thing, and it was very healthy for our kids.”
