Kevin Feige maps out Marvel's future through 2042

In 2008, Marvel's first film was released, Iron Man. Now, more than a decade later, Kevin Feige, head of the comic book franchise, said he has plans to take the Avengers films to 2042.

This map of roughly 16 years into the future, he said, has been mapped out.

However, with this, he added a rider that nothing is guaranteed.

"As for whether we can hold on until 2042? Who knows. Will it be those movies that will be made? Who knows," he told Chinese entertainment outlet Watching Hollywood.

The jaw-dropping bombshell comes as Marvel dropped the trailer for the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday.

But the Doomsday saga will not end there. Instead, the franchise has locked in next year for Avengers: Secret Wars.

In the same interview, Feige said that the new movie will be easier for audiences er to follow because it has a new universe.

“It will establish a streamlined, simplified, single universe that’s easier for audiences to follow. Some aspects will feel familiar. But many, many things will be entirely new," he told the outlet.

As Feige's remarks highlight a somewhat apparent return to the superhero genre after years battling what critics say is a 'super-hero fatigue.'

To put it on display, the Marvel star-packed trailer of Avengers: Doomsday has raked in a whopping 503 million views over 24 hours.

Marvel's forthcoming tentpole opens in theatres on Dec 17.
