SpaceX plans new Texas data center to boost AI compute capacity

SpaceX is planning to expand its operations in U.S.

As reported by The Information on Wednesday, Elon Musk's space company is preparing for at least one new large-scale data center in Texas.

The expansion would significantly increase the company's AI computing capacity beyond its existing Memphis-Tennessee hub (the "Colossus" data center campus) where it operates two data centers with about 1 gigawatt of compute capacity.

As per the report SpaceX has explored several potential data center sites in Texas in recent months as the company is considering building multiple data centers from scratch and retrofitting an existing warehouse.

The latest report comes after SpaceX signed AI computing deals with Anthropic in May and Google in June, broadening its efforts to monetize its AI infrastructure.

The proposed Texas operations could match or exceed the gigawatt-scale capacity of existing sites equipped with hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GPUs.

Additionally, as per The Information report, the Space technology company has already sent some existing data center staff to Texas in preparation for the expansion.

However, official confirmation from Elon Musk is pending.
