Florida on alert as US hurricane center sees 80% chance of cyclone in next 48 hours
A tropical depression is likely to form today or on Monday as the system gradually moves northwest
On Sunday, the US National Hurricane Center reportedly announced in an advisory that a tropical disturbance over the Gulf of Mexico and Florida has progressively refined and has an 80% chance of becoming a cyclone in the next 48 hours.
Continued development of this system is expected and a tropical depression is likely to form later on Monday as the system moves slowly northward or northwestward, according to reports from the Miami-based forecaster.
Initially, slow development is expected over the coming days as environmental conditions gradually improve. These tropical activities are expected to continue increasing in the coming weeks, as conditions become more favorable for development.
The northern Gulf coast across Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana should monitor the progress of the current system as tropical storm warnings could be required for portions of the area today.
Nonetheless, this system is expected to bring heavy rains to portions of the northern Gulf coast during the next couple of days. Additionally, an Air Force Reserve reconnaissance aircraft is scheduled to explore the area of low pressure today.
