Brian Austin Green shares biggest lesson from his marriage to Megan Fox
Brian Austin Green says he approached his marriage to Megan Fox the wrong way
Brian Austin Green is looking back on what he learned from his marriage to Megan Fox, recognising that the relationship was built mainly on physical attraction.
Speaking on the I Do, Part 2 podcast, the 52-year-old actor said he spent nearly 15 years with Fox, including almost 10 years of marriage.
"I led with physical attraction,” he admitted, noting that he then "sort of build a relationship around that.”
Green said that after his divorce, he realised he did not want to repeat the same mistakes and decided to attend therapy to better understand his role in unhealthy relationship patterns.
The actor explained that he now believes friendships should come before romance.
“I think when you started from a place of a genuine connection with someone, then you’re not so concerned about whether they are truly into you or not,” he added, explaining that it allowed two people to communicate “in a very transparent way.”
He noted that getting to know someone first helps create honesty, trust, and better communication. He said this approach also makes it easier to understand whether a relationship is based on a real connection rather than only attraction.
Green said he followed this mindset before meeting his fiancée, professional dancer Sharna Burgess, in late 2020. He shared that they openly discussed both their strengths and weaknesses early in their relationship.
“Your approach to a relationship is the best way to know if it’s just a purely physical connection,” the actor explained. “That’s only going to last for so long that you’re going to get to a point where you go, ‘I can’t stand that other person. So they’re not hot to me anymore.’”
Green and Burgess welcomed their son, Zane, in 2022 and became engaged the next year.
Green and Fox married in 2010 and separated in 2020. They share three children together. After their split, Fox began a relationship with musician Machine Gun Kelly. The former couple welcomed a daughter, Saga, in 2025 and have since been seen co-parenting their child.
