Where is Kris Humphries now more than a decade after 72-day marriage?
Kim Kardashian's ex-husband Kris Humphries reveals surprising career pivot after retiring from professional basketball in 2019
More than a decade after his headline-making 72-day marriage to Kim Kardashian, former NBA player Kris Humphries has quietly built a new life far from Hollywood—this time as a fast-food franchise owner in his home state of Minnesota.
Humphries, 41, and his family became franchisees of Dave's Hot Chicken in 2022 and have since opened multiple locations across Minnesota, with plans to continue expanding. The family has previously said it hopes to open as many as 18 restaurants throughout the state.
Announcing the venture when it launched, Humphries wrote on Instagram, "Super excited to bring @daveshotchicken to Minnesota with my family. This is the best chicken ever! Get ready Minnesota."
His cousin, Alex Humphries, later explained that the family chose Minneapolis' North Loop for one of its locations because of the area's mix of historic charm, growing population and proximity to downtown, calling it an ideal fit for the brand.
Humphries has also embraced his role as a restaurateur on social media, regularly sharing videos of customers, food influencers and menu items from the restaurants, often appearing in the clips himself.
The career change may not come as a surprise to longtime Keeping Up With the Kardashians viewers. During his brief marriage to Kim, Humphries frequently spoke about wanting to return to Minnesota once his NBA career ended, while Kardashian remained committed to building her career in Los Angeles.
Their differing visions for the future became a recurring storyline on Kourtney & Kim Take New York. At one point, Kardashian firmly told her then-husband she would "never" move to Minnesota, marking one of the couple's most memorable on-screen disagreements.
Humphries also made headlines at the time for telling Kardashian, "By the time you have kids... no one will probably care about you," a remark that resurfaced for years after their split.
Restaurant ownership isn't entirely new for the Humphries family. In addition to Dave's Hot Chicken, they have also invested in Crisp & Green and Five Guys franchise locations across Minnesota.
Humphries and Kardashian married in August 2011 before she filed for divorce just 72 days later. Although the marriage was short-lived, their divorce was not finalised until October 2013 after a lengthy legal process. He retired from professional basketball in 2019.
