8 pilots suspended after Independence Day flyover: What went wrong?
‘We are also aware of the public feedback and concerns regarding the temporary suspension of the Apache pilots involved, said Major Lisa Alle’
Officials reportedly announced the suspension of eight Apache helicopter pilots who participated in this year’s Salute from the Shore flyover. The National Guard is carrying out a review of the helicopter's flight profiles and investigating potential safety violations.
The pilots’ suspension stems from an investigation into events from that day, but officials declined to reveal further details due to the ongoing probe.
In response to public concerns raised regarding the pilots’ suspensions, officials said this was a routine administrative protocol.
In this connection, Major Lisa Alle said: “ We are also aware of the public feedback and concerns regarding the temporary suspension of the Apache pilots involved.”
According to the National Guard, the pilots remain on active duty and continue to acquire their regular income while performing other administrative tasks. Officials further stated that while the pilots are temporarily grounded, they remain in good standing.
“We sincerely appreciate the strong community support for our service members.”
“The South Carolina Army National Guard holds its aviators to the highest standards of professional conduct and aviation regulations. Our absolute top priority is, and always will be, the safety of our personnel and the communities we fly over, Alle continued.”
Officials declined to provide further details or speculate on specific allegations including questions about flight altitude or Federal Aviation Administration regulations, citing the ongoing evaluation.
