Sara Foster talks about her younger stepmom for the first time: 'I look at her as a sister'

Sara Foster has opened up about her relationship with her dad David Foster’s wife, Katharine McPhee.

The 45-year-old recently appeared on the Let's Be Honest podcast, where she shared her opinion on her father's seven-year marriage to Katharine, who is 35 years younger than him.

Sara made it clear that her dad and the American Idol alum are happy despite their age difference.

When asked about her relationship with Katharine, she said, "She's really amazing."

"I have to tell you, she really is," continued Sara, adding that becoming a part of her famous family is "not easy."

"Everyone has an opinion about something," said the ‘90210’ alum. "And you know what? They're like 12 years in, and they are happy.”

“I think it’s hard being a stepparent, obviously. I think you want to ride the line of wanting your partner’s kids to like you and wanting to show up as a motherly figure,” she continued. “But you also have to have respect for the real mom … the biological mom. I think it’s a tough balance, and I think she does it really well.”

Sara further shared that she has a more sisterly relationship with Katharine.

“I am older than her,” she said. “I look at her as a sister, but like she is my stepmom. She’s my dad’s wife. So, I think it’s normal for her to come in and kind of take over in certain [situations] and she really doesn’t do that.”

For those unversed, David met Katharine in 2006 on American Idol when she was a contestant, and he was a guest mentor.

The two tied the knot in 2019.
