Jesse Tyler Ferguson recently opened up about what fatherhood has done to his heart.

At the 79th Annual Tony Awards on Saturday, June 7, the 50-year-old American actor promoted his role as King Herod in the West End production of Jesus Christ Superstar at the London Palladium, which began performances on June 20, 2026.

The conversation soon turned from his role to fatherhood, as Ferguson is the father of two sons, Beckett Mercer (born in 2020) and Sullivan "Sully" Louis (born in 2022).

Voicing his thoughts to PEOPLE magazine, the Modern Family star said, “Fatherhood broke my heart open in ways that I didn't expect. And I just love my kids so much. I love being able to take them to the theater, share things with them that I love.”

For those unaware, Ferguson shares his kids with producer and lawyer Justin Mikita, with whom he has been married for 13 years.

In one of his interviews with the same outlet after the birth of Beckett in 2020, the Cocaine Bear actor stated that fatherhood was “always in the card” for him, but he wanted to embrace it at the perfect time.

"My husband's 10 years younger than me, so I sort of was waiting for his timeline to catch up with mine. I think I would have done this 10 years ago, but whatever, it's fine. Better late than never,” Jesse Tyler Ferguson said.
