US-Iran talks back on track: Switzerland confirms dialogue continues at Burgenstock

After a day of abrupt halt, the US-Iran peace talks are back on track as the diplomacy continues among the parties and meditators at Bürgenstock in Switzerland as confirmed by the Swiss foreign ministry.

The extendable 60-days talks between Tehran and Washington are part of a memorandum of understanding signed by both nations on Wednesday to end the conflict.

The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Saturday that the Bürgenstock resort continues to serve as a “discreet and reliable venue” for ongoing discussions aimed at implementing a MoU between the US and Iran.

However, the statement did not include the names of participants like who is attending the talks and what is the major content of talks.

According to the Iranian deputy foreign minister as reported by Al Jazeera, Tehran is willing to continue the diplomatic process if Washington is serious about respecting the MoU.

“We are ready to move forward step by step, if the other party demonstrates the same seriousness,” said Saeed Khatibzadeh.

The development comes as the highly-anticipated talks between US and Iran were abruptly called off without citing any major reason. On the same day, Vice President JD Vance also postponed its travel plan to Geneva.

Later earlier on Saturday, it was reported that US envoys including Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are reportedly heading to Switzerland for negotiations aimed at finalizing a peace deal with Iran.

According to Axios, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is scheduled to travel to Switzerland this Saturday. However, sources note that these arrangements remain uncertain.

These peace efforts face formidable challenges as renewed Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon threaten the stability of the proposed agreement.
