Iran deal at risk: US warns of naval blockade if Tehran fails to meet commitments

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reportedly says that the US is all set to “reimpose an ironclad blockade” if Iran fails to follow the rules of an agreement duly signed by both sides.

According to the 14-point agreement, prolonged deliberations will reach a final agreement over the next 60 days, as the Strait of Hormuz reopens. 

At present, the deal has drawn criticism and praise from countless commentators including hardliners on both sides.

As Iran and the US move toward upcoming negotiations, some of the incisive criticism comes from former US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

An administration official said: “If they engage in good behavior – for example, they get us the nuclear dust while we’re engaged in this final negotiation – then we will release some frozen assets in response to that.”

The Israeli Defense Force clarified that its presence would continue until significant operational needs are met. If Iran doesn't comply with the terms in the memorandum, then the US is "more than able to reimpose an ironclad blockade," US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says.

He clarified that any US military actions and negotiations will be heavily on Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Hegseth also added that there are European countries who are ready to deploy and help clear the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump has taken to his Truth Social to hit back against condemnation that he has not been tough enough for Iran, stating, “These fools, who think I haven’t been tough enough on Iran, when the Stock Market Just Hit A RECORD HIGH, and Oil prices are “tumbling” down, are either jealous, bad people, or stupid. The director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency has come forward to clarify that they are ready to develop tangible measures to address Iran’s nuclear programme.

It is worth mentioning here that under the current agreement between the US and Iran, Iran has reaffirmed not to acquire nuclear weapons while both sides have agreed to neutralize Tehran’s stockpile of enriched uranium.

Oil prices have fallen this morning after the US and Iran signed a Memorandum of Understanding last night. The prices have significantly dropped since the 14-point framework emerged on Wednesday, signaling an interim peace agreement to end the four-month geopolitical tensions.

Trump has acclaimed the deal as a crucial win for the US, although three main questions are yet to be resolved.

Israel’s military operations in Lebanon remain a central focus of diplomatic discussions with the US. Lebanese media continue to report Israeli strikes in the country despite the US-Iran memorandum of understanding aiming to include Lebanon in the political peace treaty.

Trump at the G7 summit in France said that peace in Lebanon is “something we will have to work on but the big deal is the Iran peace deal.”
