Meghan Markle's friend Serena Williams to play doubles with sister Venus at Wimbledon
Meghan Markle's friend Serena Williams made a sensational return to tennis last week
Serena Williams, a close friend of Meghan Markle, will play at Wimbledon for the first time since 2022 after the US legend was given a wildcard to play the doubles event with her sister Venus on Tuesday.
Williams, 44, made a sensational return to tennis last week when she won her first-round doubles match at Queen´s Club with partner Victoria Mboko.
According to Reuters, Serena has 23 Grand Slam singles titles, including seven at Wimbledon, and has also captured six doubles titles at the All England Club playing alongside her older sibling.
Williams is gearing up for the grasscourt Grand Slam beginning on June 29 by playing doubles in Berlin this week partnering Karolina Muchova.
Her last match at Wimbledon was in 2022 when she also needed a wildcard and lost to Harmony Tan in the first round.
Wildcards are handed to players whose ranking does not allow them automatic entry and are usually reserved for high-profile players returning from injury or those from the home nation.
Serena Williams fans have received the exciting news days after she reacted to the rumours of rift with Meghan after she failed to mention the Duchess at the Met Gala.
The tennis legend’s appearance at the 2026 event alongside Emma Thynn and Edward Enninful had sparked fresh speculation about whether one of her most visible friendships with Meghan has quietly cooled.
Meanwhile, Meghan's sister-in-law Kate Middleton has deep ties to Wimbledon as the official Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC), the role the Princess inherited from late Queen Elizabeth II in 2016.
