Steven Spielberg responds to claims of AI use in new film

Steven Spielberg has said that no artificial intelligence (AI) was used to create the alien sounds in his new film, Disclosure Day.

His comments came after actress Emily Blunt revealed that AI had been mentioned as a possible option during discussions about her character's alien language.

In the film, Blunt plays a weather presenter who suddenly begins speaking in a strange alien language.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Blunt said Spielberg had told her they could either use AI to create the sounds or have her perform them herself.

She chose to create the sounds on her own and said she felt confident she could come up with something unusual.

However, Spielberg later clarified that he never intended to use AI for the final result. "I would never have used AI," the award-winning filmmaker told ITV News.

The director explained that he prefers traditional sound-design techniques, such as manipulating recordings of animal sounds by slowing them down, speeding them up or playing them backwards.

He also praised sound designer Gary Rydstrom, saying he would have found another creative solution if needed.

Spielberg has previously spoken about his concerns regarding AI in filmmaking. Earlier this year, he said AI can be a useful tool but should not replace human creativity.

He said he believes creative work needs a human touch and should not be controlled entirely by algorithms.

Blunt explained that she recorded many different sounds, including clicking noises, humming and low vocal tones, which were later combined by the sound team.

She also revealed that sound engineers used multiple microphones to capture different parts of her voice and throat sounds.

The final alien language heard in the film is made up of several layers of audio created from those recordings.
