Strawberry moon set to light up Chicago skies this month— Here’s when and where to see it

Skygazers can witness a rare astronomical phenomenon that will illuminate the night sky over Chicago at the end of the month- the prominent Strawberry Moon.

According to Space.com, the strawberry Moon occurs every year in June, shortly following the post-solstice period also known as the “lag of the seasons".

The moonrise marks the core planting moon or the first of the summer, depending on how you observe it.

Strawberry Moon marks do not mean the moon will have a rosy, pink hue; preferably it simply reflects the time of year it raises, marking the peak of one of the conventional strawberry harvesting seasons. The moon will reach peak illumination in Chicago on Tuesday, June 29.

The best places to take in the full moon are areas in Chicago with unobstructed night skies. One of the best times to celebrate the Strawberry Moon is to catch a Full Moon jam.

These various summer events feature fire dancing, live music, and fun for the whole family. All eyes will be on the moon and will begin rising in the afternoon, reaching full radiance on Monday, June 29. The moon still appears bright in the sky, casting a warm yellow or orange as it commences its ascension.
