Jordan Staal makes NHL history with fifth straight Stanley Cup Final goal
Jordan Staal tipped in a first-period goal to continue a remarkable scoring run and become just the fifth player in league history to score
Carolina Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal has tied an NHL record after scoring in his fifth consecutive Stanley Cup Final game during Thursday’s Game 5 clash.
The 37-year-old tipped in a first-period goal to continue a remarkable scoring run and become just the fifth player in league history to score in five straight Stanley Cup Final games.
Staal scored in each of the opening five games of the Stanley Cup Final series.
The Hurricanes veteran now has six goals in the series and has also become the oldest player in NHL history to score six goals in a Stanley Cup Final.
Known more for his defensive leadership and physical presence than prolific scoring, Staal’s run has become one of the biggest storylines of the Stanley Cup Final.
The Hurricanes captain will now have the chance to break the record outright in Game 6 on Sunday, where he could become the first player ever to score in six consecutive Stanley Cup Final games.
