Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei fires back at AI ‘doom marketing’ critics including Jensen Huang

Anthropic has been in the spotlight for weeks. First the company’s CEO called for a freeze on AI development due to “self improvement” concerns and the tech giant released Mythos-class Claude Fable 5 to the public on Wednesday.

At the same time, the founder Dario Amodei has always been vocal of unprecedentedly destructive impacts of AI on society and job markets. Some critics called Amodei’s AI “doom predictions” a kind of marketing to gain influence.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang also hit back on AI leaders, responsible for fear-mongering by overstating its apocalyptic dangers among people. According to Huang, the idea of AI wiping out half of all jobs is "ridiculous" and that CEOs making these sweeping claims suffer from a "God complex" and are damaging the industry's ability to hire talent by “conflating jobs with tasks.”

In a recent interview on Bloomberg with Emily Chang, Dario Amodei fired back at such critics, “I want to be really clear on this and push back hard against this. In every interview, I talk about the possible ways to address these risks from tax and microeconomic policy to what the new jobs are.”

“In the Adolescence of Technology, I have five pages where I lay out differences between tasks and jobs. But the social media, which I detest as a category, people have these three second clips which make them believe that it is a marketing-based stunt.”

“So my message is just that no doom is coming, but this is something we should see coming and we are worried about it. I am still of the same order of concern,” he added.

In another interview with ABC News, Amodei doubled down on predictions that AI could deliver 5-10 percent annual GDP while causing 10-20 percent unemployment and displacing half of entry-level white-collar jobs in fields like coding, finance, and law.

He also warned that AI could create a world of “hypergrowth, hyper-inequality” & lasting job displacement.
