Anya Taylor-Joy says nomadic childhood shaped her acting career
Anya Taylor-Joy reflects on difficult childhood moves across countries
Anya Taylor-Joy has spoken up about how constantly moving around during childhood left her feeling isolated and different from other people.
In a new interview with L’Officiel magazine, the actress said her early years were difficult because she never truly felt like she belonged anywhere. "It was difficult for little me," she told the magazine.
Anya was born in the United States, raised in Buenos Aires and later moved to the United Kingdom with her family when she was six years old.
Looking back, she admitted that while the experience was hard for her as a child, she now believes those experiences helped prepare her for life in the film industry.
“But now I look at it with so much love, because I just think it perfectly set me up to live this kind of transient life,” she explained.
The Dune star said she has now fully accepted her love of travelling and change. “I’ve always been nomadic by nature,” she said, adding that she enjoys exploring new places whenever she has time off.
Anya previously revealed she struggled to fit in because people could not easily define her background. “I was always the Argentine girl in England. I was the English girl in America,” she said in an earlier interview.
She also admitted she initially refused to learn English after moving to Britain because she hoped her family would eventually return to Argentina.
The actress said those feelings later helped her connect deeply with different acting roles, as she enjoys stepping into the lives of completely different characters.
Away from acting, Anya has largely kept her marriage to musician and actor Malcolm McRae private since the pair began dating several years ago.
