Robert Pattinson opens up about intense workout routine for 'Batman' role
Robert Pattinson clears up long-running rumours about Batman training
Robert Pattinson has admitted that he was not telling the truth when he claimed he did not work out for his role as Batman.
Back in 2020, before filming The Batman, Pattinson told GQ magazine that he had no plans to train heavily for the role. He even joked that he ignored calls from a personal trainer hired by the studio.
At the time, he said actors who constantly worked out were “part of the problem” and pointed out that older Hollywood stars were not extremely muscular.
However, the actor has now admitted those comments were mostly made as a joke.
Speaking again to GQ, Pattinson said the interview “came back to haunt” him because many people believed he never trained for the film.
“Everyone was like, ‘You didn’t work out at all.’ I worked out every day,” he insisted in the recent interview.
The actor explained that he simply felt uncomfortable talking publicly about fitness and gym routines. “I was trying to sound cool,” he admitted.
He continued, “I just always think it’s really embarrassing to talk about how you’re working out. I think it’s like an English thing … [But] you’re playing Batman. You have to work out.”
Pattinson revealed he trained twice a day while preparing for the role, sometimes beginning workouts as early as 3am. “Even after that, I still look like I didn’t work out,” he continued.
The Twilight alum is known for making unusual or exaggerated comments during interviews. In the past, he has jokingly claimed he never washes his hair and once told a fake story about witnessing a clown explosion as a child.
Pattinson is currently promoting The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan. He is also preparing to return as Batman in the sequel directed by Matt Reeves.
