Tom Holland gets candid about ‘uncomfortable’ talk with Sony over ‘The Odyssey’
Tom Holland says Christopher Nolan’s reputation made his situation easy
Tom Holland has reportedly a lifelong dream of starring in a movie directed by Christopher Nolan.
Then, the offer came.
However, the actor faced a catch-22 situation at the time.
Because The Odyssey- a Nolan-directed movie - and Spider-Man: Brand New Day had to shoot at the same time.
This left Holland in a fix.
He recalled the incident in an interview with GQ magazine.
“So I said to Chris, like, ‘Look, I want to do this movie, but if I’m going to do it, I’m going to have to call Sony and have a very uncomfortable conversation.'"
To Holland's surprise, Sony agreed to delay the filming of the new Spider-Man.
“I think one of the reasons why Sony were happy to move is because Chris has that reputation of."
Holland added, "‘This movie isn’t going to go five months over, and we aren’t actually going to lose Tom for two years.'"
Notably, The Odyssey ended nine days early, ahead of schedule, according to the actor.
But if Nolan was not involved in the project, Holland said, it would be hard to get permission.
“Any other director, it might have been a slightly different conversation.”
The Odyssey will head to the cinema on July 17 and two weeks later, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
