Palace shares major update on Queen Margrethe health after hospitalization
Margrethe passed the throne to her eldest son Frederik in January 2024
Denmark’s royal family has shared major update on Queen Margrethe health, confirming she has been discharged from hospital.
Margrethe has left hospital days after she was admitted following a fall, the royal palace said Friday.
The court said in a statement that she was "on her way home to Fredensborg Palace after being discharged" at around midday.
The statement further says the former monarch, who abdicated two years ago, is "doing well."
The 86-year-old was hospitalised on Monday and a scan revealed a "significant accumulation of blood in the hip area" following the fall.
The former queen, a heavy smoker for much of her life, remains popular among Danes for subtly modernising the monarchy during her reign, as per the AFP.
But she has faced multiple health problems in recent years and spent several days in hospital earlier this month for an angioplasty procedure.
She had long maintained that she would never abdicate but a major back operation in 2023 led her to change her mind.
Margrethe passed the throne to her eldest son Frederik in January 2024, making him king and his wife Mary the reigning queen.
According to the statement, Margrethe "must continue to take things easy," but none of her planned engagements have been cancelled for now.
It is to be mentioned here that barely a week earlier, the Queen was discharged from the same hospital after heart surgery.
