Nicki Minaj drops bombshell: 'Lots of rappers' secretly hate Jay-Z
Nicki Minaj's claim about Jay-Z comes amid discussion over her ideological shift
Jay-Z is a powerhouse in the world of rap. However, Nicki Minaj claims many rappers "hate" him.
The Anaconda rap star shares this in the context of discussing her political views.
In an interview with Time, Minaj says she was a Democrat at first. But now a MAGA.
The Bang Bang hitmaker points to Jay-Z for partly fuelling her ideological shift.
“I think Jay-Z ended up costing Obama a lot, whether he knows it or not," she says.
Both of them have a cordial relationship.
Former President Barack Obama inducted Jay-Z into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021, and the latter campaigned for him.
Amid this public friendship, Minaj alleges it has hurt support for Obama in rappers' circles.
“Lots of rappers don’t like Jay-Z and were afraid to say it," she tells the magazine.
Elsewhere in the interview, Minaj explains how she became a MAGA from a Democrat.
She recalls her home being "swatted" after what she says trolls would call the police.
Frustrated by it, Minaj claims she approached Governor Gavin Newsom, but he allegedly did not respond.
“He just completely ignored me, with all the money I spent in taxes,” she says.
In contrast, Anna Paulina, a GOP congressman, supported the rapper.
This has strengthened her support for the Republicans, which she had not expressed publicly at the time.
