Julia Stiles slams early career demands: 'Just made me angry'
Julia Stiles opens up about her struggles as teenager that pushed her over the edge
Julia Stiles recently reminisced about one piece of advice she cannot forget, which she received during her acting auditions as a teenager.
Stiles’ Get Ready with Me video, recorded in partnership with the beauty brand Merit, was posted on Instagram, where she can be heard saying, "I remember being an auditioning actress as a teenager, and every single audition that I went to, they'd be like, 'You need to smile more. Just smile, be more bubbly and effervescent. Because you're so serious. You're too serious.”
The 45-year-old American actress went on to add, "And that just made me angry, but luckily I found the role of Kat Stratford in 10 Things I Hate About You."
Reflecting on her breakthrough role of Kat Stratford in the 1999 comedy romance film 10 Things I Hate About You, she admitted, "It was just so much fun playing her because she wasn't driven by everybody else's judgment of her.
“How awesome that, like 25 years later, different generations of ladies are still responding to her and that movie?" the Jason Bourne star noted.
It is pertinent to mention that 10 Things I Hate About You drew inspiration from The Taming of the Shrew, which helped Julie Stiles cement her position in the late-’90s and early-2000s teen cinema.
