Kourtney Kardashian marks milestone with step daughter despite warning from husband's ex
Kourtney Kardashian shares sweet tribute to Atiana De La Hoya despite blended family drama
Kourtney Kardashian is celebrating a special moment with his stepchildren amid renewed tensions involving husband Travis Barker’s ex, Shanna Moakler.
The Kardashians star, 46, marked the 27th birthday of her eldest stepdaughter Atiana De La Hoya on Sunday with a video of the family gathered outdoors. The clip showed the birthday girl getting surprised as a candlelit cake is brought out, at which Atiana appeared emotional and told the group she might cry as they sang to her.
“Wait, I think I’m going to cry,” Atiana said looking up at the camera. Kardashian then said to the group behind the camera, “Sing it, guys,” prompting everyone to sing the birthday song.
The reality star also tagged Atiana and wrote “A blessing,” over the clip, referencing her bond with her stepdaughter.
Barker also shared a simple birthday message for Atiana, while the birthday girl also took to social media with glimpses of her celebrations, which included an outdoor movie night and a homemade cake.
Barker shares children Landon and Alabama with ex-wife Shanna Moakler, and has stayed close to Atiana, whom Moakler shares with boxer Oscar De La Hoya. Kardashian, meanwhile, shares three children with Scott Disick, and a son Rocky with Barker.
However, the family dynamic has not been without tension as Moakler has previously accused Kardashian of overstepping boundaries in her relationship with Barker’s children.
In past interviews, Moakler claimed co-parenting dynamics were never properly discussed and suggested lines had been crossed regarding her role as a mother.
“I don’t think those women have those conversations with anybody,” Moakler said in a February 27 episode of the When Reality Hits podcast hosted by Brittany Cartwright.
The former Miss USA has also voiced concerns about feeling excluded from decisions involving the children.
“At one point in time, I felt it wasn’t respectful,” Moakler added. “At certain times, I felt, ‘Wow, if I had your kids, I wouldn’t be doing some of the s*** you’re doing with my kids.’”
Despite the friction, Kardashian has said she approaches her role as a stepmother carefully, saying she tries to support Barker’s children in whatever way they are comfortable with—whether as a friend or a parental figure.
