Scott Mills Reddit thread erupts as mystery over BBC abrupt firing grows
Scott Mills firing sparks wild theories on Reddit, which are grabbing the attention of the internet
Scott Mills, a veteran BBC presenter, suddenly received his marching orders after being sacked from the network for reasons yet to be made public, and in response, his fans-made Reddit page exploded.
Besides the two-word response 'personal conduct', the BBC has given no details about its shocking decision to fire the radio presenter.
He was, for a long-time, present on Radio 2, becoming listeners' favourite for nearly 30 years.
Yet, given the speed with which the BBC axed his contract, social media users on Reddit wondered what the main cause was.
"While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals, we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted and has left the BBC," a network's spokesperson says.
What stung the Mills loyalists the most was that the radio presenter, just days before in his show, signed off with the message that he would return tomorrow.
Yet, he never did. Instead, he was vanished from the airwaves.
What did Scott Mills do?
The abrupt booting out, as well as colleagues leaving stunned from the decision, prompted Lorna Clarke, BBC music director, to share an internal email in the company, stating, "I know that this news will be sudden and unexpected and therefore must come as a shock."
She continues, "Not least as so many of us have worked with Scott over a great many years, across a broad range of our programmes on R1, 5Live, R2 and TV."
"I felt it was important to share this news with you at the earliest opportunity," Clarke adds, noting, "Of course, it will also come as a shock to our audience and loyal breakfast show listeners too."
"I will update everyone with more information on plans for the show when I'm able to. While I appreciate many of you will have questions, I hope you can understand that I am not going to be saying anything further now."
Scott Mills Reddit thread explodes
Social media users in droves weigh in on the shocking sacking of Mills, sharing their quick takes.
"BBC presenter sacked? There's only 2 things it could be: abusive to staff or a nonce," says a Reddit user.
Another adds, "Doing drugs during work? Would probably be able to play the health card for a suspension in that case."
"Hey, don't forget that it might be drugs!" a third social media user in a similar vein speculates.
