Jennifer Lopez revisits 2000 Grammys dress that gave birth to Google Images

The 68th Grammy Awards, the highest honors in the music industry, were handed out at a ceremony on Sunday, broadcast on CBS and hosted by Trevor Noah. 

Hours before the ceremony, Jennifer Lopez shared a video of her appearance at the 2000 Grammys   wearing an iconic dress.

The "On The Floor" singer took the world by surprise as she stepped onto the red carpet at the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2000, wearing an ultra-plunging green Versace dress that went "viral", although going viral was hardly a thing back then. 

It's that dress that prompted Google to create its Google Images features after witnessing high Search interest for pictures of the outfit.

Writing about the dress in 2015 ,former Google CEO Eric Schmidt said  “At the time, it was the most popular search query we had ever seen. But we had no surefire way of getting users exactly what they wanted: JLo wearing that dress. Google Image Search was born.” 

In a 2024 interview, Jennifer Lopez revealed that her then-stylist Andrea Lieberman advised her against wearing the dress because Halliwell and other celebrities had done so already.

“My stylist was like, 'Please don't wear it. Somebody else has worn it.' I was like, 'Well, you bought it, and it looks the best, so I'm going to wear it.' And so I did. And it caused quite a stir," Lopez explained.
