Why Jessica Simpson struggled with pop stardom in 2000s
Jessica Simpson recently released two new EPs marking her comeback to music after a 15-year hiatus
Jessica Simpson revealed that she "never felt good enough" to be a pop star in the early 2000s.
Speaking to the audience during her concert in Connecticut on Sunday, the 45-year-old musician recalled feeling inadequate at the beginning of her career.
"My whole music career, you know I had a job, and it was to be a pop star and I tried but I will say when you're younger you just never feel good enough and it's okay to not feel good enough," admitted Jessica.
The I Wanna Love You Forever hitmaker continued, "I want everyone to have grace for themselves when they just don't feel good enough sometimes. But I'm very good at convincing myself that my purpose is bigger than the moment that I'm in - a really hard time of my life I just kinda had to surrender myself to the intuition to the light that was in front of me and just focus on that."
Jessica further described how music became "a job" for her.
"It was never about the music. It was never about my voice. It was never about my purpose. It was about chasing hits," said the Take My Breath Away songstress. "It was about how many spins you got on the radio and just making sure they (the label) recouped. It was a job."
Jessica, who recently released a pair of EPs, Nashville Canyon Part I and II, also revealed how the city transformed her.
“I do love Nashville,” noted the With You singer. “It brought me home, to myself. It brought me inside of my heart in a really hard time of my life.”
“I just kind of had to surrender myself to my intuition, to the light that was in front of me. I just focused on that," she added.
