King Charles has revealed he went on a terrifying Arctic trip with a risky under-ice dive to be aware of the experiments Canadian scientists were conducting in 1975.

The official Instagram of the royal family has shared a snap of the King of the United Kingdom, which was captured underwater.

In the picture, His Highness, with a full-face diving mask and breathing apparatus, can be seen pressed against the underside of an icy surface.

The picture also shows the surface above him, partly covered with ice, cracks, and trapped air bubbles that are commonly seen in polar environments and frozen lakes.

Along with the picture, the post also has a caption that reads, “So, why did The King emerge from his historic ice dive wearing a bowler hat…?”

“Coming soon to @ITV, a brand-new documentary following adventurer @Backshall.Steve, as he retraces The King’s steps from his 1975 trip to the Canadian Arctic, looking at the impact of climate change 50 years on.”

“Take a look back at His Majesty’s formative trip, 50 years ago… Tune into ‘Steve Backshall’s Royal Arctic Challenge’ on 18th December at 8.30pm on @ITV,” the caption concluded.

Notably, this comes after King Charles conversed with explorer Steve Backshall for a 90 minute ITV documentary, confessing that he does not want to hear from his grandchildren that he did nothing to save the planet and left a “ghastly legacy of horror”.

He said, “You have to just go on trying, I find, because I mind, for what it’s worth, about the younger generations.”

“To me, it is not fair to leave them something in a far worse state than I found it, if you know what I mean. The whole point, I have always felt, is to improve it for people, so they don’t have a ghastly legacy of horror to have to deal with.”

“That’s why I spent all these years, because I don’t want to be accused by my grandchildren of not doing anything about it. That is the key,” his Majesty stated.
