Jessie Buckley talks 'Hamnet' Oscar buzz amid key change in life
'Hamnet' star Jessie Buckley has received an Oscar nomination before
With all the new mom duties, Jessie Buckley isn’t letting Oscar buzz get to her head.
"I haven't fully worked out how I feel about that," said the actress regarding the Oscar buzz over her role in Hamnet.
At the premiere of the film, in which she stars as Agnes Shakespeare, the wife of the famous English playwright portrayed by Paul Mescal.
Her career’s major moments are mixed with sweet moments of motherhood. The actress is "just trying to be present in" the moment.
"I'm also a new mom so, like, most of the time I'm changing a nappy and coming to things like this," she added.
Hamnet imagines Shakespeare and Agnes' grief after losing their son, who inspired his famous tragedy Hamlet.
The film is directed by Chloé Zhao and produced by Steven Spielberg.
"I’m really proud to be putting this film out in the world, and I'm so happy that it's been responded to in the way it has," Jessie gushed during the premiere. "I mean, to make anything at all is a triumph. The other stuff is extra."
"I don't think any of us take for granted what our jobs are, and there's been so much extraordinary work put out," she added of the cast, which also includes Joe Alwyn, Emily Watson and brothers Noah and Jacobi Jupe.
"It was so light on set," Jessie shared. "I think we all approach it with intention, but with the lightest of touches, and we just loved each other, you know, we really were like a family."
Jessie Buckley has previously gotten an Academy Award nomination for her role in The Lost Daughter.
Hamnet gets a worldwide release on December 12.
