Nicki Minaj makes powerful speech for oppressed: 'Faith is under attack'
Singer and rapper Nicki Minaj raises voice against religious persecution during an United Nation's event
Nicki Minaj is calling attention to the plight of Nigerian Christians, urging the world leaders not to stay silent and to act upon it.
On Tuesday, November 18, the singer and rapper took the podium at a United Nations event organized by the U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz to speak out against the alleged religious persecution.
"I would like to thank President Trump for prioritizing this issue and his leadership on the global stage in calling for urgent action to defend Christians in Nigeria and to combat extremism and to bring a stop to violence against those who simply want to express their natural right to freedom of religion or belief," she began.
Religious freedom means any individual can practice their faith regardless of who we are, where we live and what we believe.
"But today, faith is under attack in way too many places," the 42-year-old Trinidadian rapper and singer-songwriter emphasised, demanding urgent action from the US government.
"Sadly, this problem is not only a growing problem in Nigeria, but so many countries across the world and it demands urgent action," she highlighted, adding that it's not about taking sides or dividing people, but "It is about uniting humanity."
The Queens native’s voiced her concerns hot on the heels of President Donald Trump’s announcement that Nigeria may soon be added to the list of Countries of Particular Concern.
Notably, this is not the first time that the Bang Bang singer has openly talked about it.
She often shared her perspective about the alleged religious persecution in the West African nation on X in recent months.
The Young Money rapper’s posts caught the attention of Ambassador Waltz, who invited her to speak at the UN event.
