Kelsea Bellerini released a haunting new song about a deeply poignant topic.
The Miss Me More singer’ track, I Sit in Parks, explores the feeling of missing something, a desire she only realised she wanted after the world told her not to want it.
The song also captures the pain of a generation of women who were encouraged to purse independence and their career goals, but weren’t taught about the loneliness that can come with it.
It begins with, "I sit in parks / It breaks my heart / ’Cause I see just how far I am / From the things that I want."
Followed by, “Dad brought the picnic/ mom brought the sunscreen/Two kids are laughing and crying on red swings / We look about the same age, but we don't have same Saturdays / Did I miss it? By now, is it / A lucid dream? Is it my fault.”
According to the Fox New, the lyrics suggest how the society often discourages motherhood, implying it would "chain" women and that it's a "trap."
The lyrics also reflected her struggles during her marriage with Morgan Evans, the couple got divorced in 2022, as Ballerini unsure if she wanted kids.
Previously, Ballerini appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast, where she opened up about the demise of her marriage. "He was like, ‘I don’t want to be an old dad,’ is what he kept saying. And I was like, ‘I’m just not there yet."
I Sit in Parks comes out as both a warning and mirror, showing the consequences of when society and culture teaches women to measure their worth through career success.
I sit in Park is now streaming on music listening platforms.
