Google launches more private, secure AI-feature
Google says, new cloud-based ‘Private AI compute’ is as secure as local processing
Google is introducing its own version of Private AI. The tech giant is rolling out a new cloud-based platform that lets users unlock advanced AI features on all their devices while keeping data private.
The company describes it as a way to run its most advanced Gemini models while keeping the user data locked down.
Google mentioned in a blog post on its official website that the new feature is designed to balance performance and privacy.
Google says new cloud-based ‘Private AI compute’ is just as secure as local processing.
Private AI Compute would allow artificial intelligence models to leverage cloud processing without giving Google or any other user access to the information being analysed.
As Google further informed, the Private AI Compute operates within a hardware-sealed, verified environment that encrypts all data transfers between devices and its cloud infrastructure.
Apple had already introduced a similar feature in 2024, called ‘Private Cloud Compute.’
The feature, virtually identical to Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, comes as companies reconcile users’ demands for privacy with the growing computational needs of the latest AI applications.
The new approach is part of a larger plan to include AI features, powered by Gemini models.
The company’s current mission is to integrate generative AI into as many products as possible.
The goal is to make the technology widely available to users across services such as Search, Workspace and Android.
According to the tech company, Google Cloud has a lot more processing power than your laptop or phone, enabling the use of Google’s largest and most capable Gemini models.
“The system’s goal is to support ‘helpful, personal, and proactive’ AI experiences without requiring users to trade away sensitive information,” informs Google.
