Buckingham Palace issued an update after members of the royal family had gathered for a poignant meeting at Windsor Castle to observe a significant day in history.
Even though, the sombre calendar date on Tuesday commemorated tragic historical events of the World War II, King Charles beamed as he met with veterans, while senior working royals performed tasks of their own.
Queen Camilla was also beside her husband, mingling with the war veterans during the reception held at Windsor. The monarch’s office honoured the service from the loyal and devoted members as Prince William, Prince Edward, Duchess Birgitte also met with the veterans.
“This evening on Armistice Day, The King and Queen, joined by The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess of Gloucester, spent time with extraordinary veterans who served in the Second World War in the Pacific,” the statement read alongside the highlights.
“This year marked the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, which in effect brought World War 2 to an end.”
The King had also reunited with the 105-year-old veteran Yavar Abbas who had famously went off script to saluted to the “brave” King to attend the VJ Day service despite his cancer battle.
Prince Harry, despite having served in the British Army, was not acknowledged in the post. The Duke of Sussex had written an emotional essay last week to mark Remembrance Day. He had declared that “Britain is, and always will be, the country I proudly served and fought for”.
Even though, Harry was not particularly given a nod, neither did Princess Anne, Princess Kate and Duchess Sophie received on in this particular statement.
Anne is currently undertaking duties in Australia and Singapore, but her services were acknowledged in another statement. Duchess Sophie has flown in South America and Princess Kate had led the service at the National Memorial Arboretum to mark Armistice Day.
