Prince Edward performs special task for royals during poignant event
King Charles honours brother Edward with important position on Remembrance Sunday
King Charles had called upon his most reliable brother, Prince Edward, to take on a crucial task as the royal family gathered on Sunday to mark a key calendar event.
All eyes were on the Duke of Edinburgh as he stood stall next to the monarch, surrounded by 10,000 former service men and women marching past the Cenotaph for commemorate Remembrance Sunday.
The King led the national service with a two-minute silence after which tributes for the fallen soldiers of the First World War were presented.
When the march past took in Horse Guards Parade, Edward then took the salute for the veterans and there was applause by the service men and women.
Meanwhile, Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh was joined by the Duke of Kent at the Cenotaph as she observed the ceremony with solemn reflection. At one point, she was seen wiping a hear, visibly moved by the moving tribute.
Moreover, in Scotland, the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh took on an important role with the St Andrews University Officers’ Training Corps (UOTC) during the St Andrews Regiments' Day Parade.
At the ceremony at Cenotaph, Prince William laid a wreath emblazoned with the three feathers of his crest.
Kate Middleton and Queen Camilla watched from a balcony overlooking Whitehall. A wreath was also laid on behalf of the Duke of Kent as he watched from the balcony.
