David Beckham feels 'prouder' after announced as 'Sir David' in Knighthood ceremony
Victoria Beckham designs the suit for husband as he receives prestigious honour at the age of 50
It’s been years in the making, but it’s finally official — David Beckham has been knighted by the King.
The 50-year-old soccer legend received the prestigious honour during a ceremony at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, marking one of the highest recognitions in the United Kingdom.
Joined by his wife, Victoria Beckham, the former Spice Girl and renowned fashion designer, Beckham was formally awarded a knighthood for his contributions to soccer and British society. He will now be known as Sir David Beckham in his home country.
“I couldn’t be prouder,” Beckham told reporters after the ceremony. “People know how patriotic I am — I love my country. I’ve always said how important the monarchy is to my family. I’m lucky enough to have traveled around the world and all people want to talk to me about is our monarchy. It makes me proud.”
Victoria designed the elegant suit her husband wore for the ceremony at the castle, adding a personal touch to the milestone moment.
Beckham rose to global fame as captain of England’s national soccer team and as a star player for Manchester United, Real Madrid, and later L.A. Galaxy.
In 2023, Beckham captivated audiences worldwide with his hit Netflix docuseries Beckham, produced by his own company, Studio 99. Following its success, Victoria’s own three-part series Victoria Beckham premiered earlier this year.
A long-time supporter of the British monarchy, Beckham made headlines in 2022 when he waited over 12 hours in line to pay his respects to Queen Elizabeth II.
His charitable work includes partnerships with UNICEF and The King’s Foundation, where he became an ambassador in 2024.
