King Charles brushes off Prince William’s request to sideline royal engagements

Prince William’s bid to take a royal breather has been met with a firm royal “no.” 

According to biographer Robert Jobson, the Prince of Wales asked to cut down his official duties to just ten engagements for the rest of 2024 but King Charles wasn’t having it.

The King, who’s been juggling his own health challenges alongside the Princess of Wales’s cancer battle, is said to have urged his eldest son to “think again.” 

Sources according to Gb News, suggest Charles wanted to maintain a sense of continuity and reassurance for the public amid what has been one of the monarchy’s most turbulent years in recent memory.

William’s request came during a deeply emotional period when both his father and wife were undergoing treatment. 

Prince William has opened up about the emotional toll of the past year, admitting that it’s family worries not royal duties that truly weigh him down.

In a candid chat with comedian Eugene Levy on Apple TV’s The Reluctant Traveler, the Prince of Wales revealed that while his royal responsibilities no longer faze him, it’s the personal side of life that can leave him feeling “overwhelmed.”

“You know, worry or stress around the family side of things that does overwhelm me quite a bit,” he confessed. 

“But in terms of doing the job and things like that, I don’t feel too overwhelmed by that.”

William went on to say that age and experience have brought a sense of calm to his professional life, allowing him to take unexpected challenges in stride. 

Still, when it comes to his loved ones, the heir apparent admits that even a future king isn’t immune to stress.

“When it’s to do with family, that’s where I start getting a bit overwhelmed, as I think most people would,” he added. 

“It’s more personal, more about feeling… about upsetting the rhythm, if you like.”
