Taylor Swift breaks new record with 'The Life of a Showgirl' after criticism
Taylor Swift has just added another feather to her cap despite the negative reaction to her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl.
The 35-year-old pop superstar broke Billie Eilish’s Birds of a Feather record of being the fastest non-single to surpass 200 million streams on Spotify.
The Anti-Hero hitmaker made the record with her song, Opalite, which her fiancé, Travis Kelce’s favourite as he has declared time and time again.
The news quickly went viral on X, as Swifties flocked together to celebrate, with one writing, “the better music won,” comparing Swift and Eilish.
Another wished, “2nd singleeeeeee,” echoing the hope of many fans who have been asking the Eras Tour performer to release it as a second single, after The Fate of Ophelia.
“BUT MY MOMMA TOLD ME ITS ALRIGHTTT,” chimed in a third, quoting the song, while another gushed, “Another record for Taylor.”
One music enthusiast noted, “it's her 170th song to achieve this and the 2nd from ‘The Life of a Showgirl.’”
Although Swift's latest album drew much criticism from her fans and occasional listeners alike for being "unpolished," "cringey lyrics," and not up to par with her other albums, Showgirl, has made records on streaming charts.
The Grammy winner’s single, The Fate of Ophelia, continues to remain at #1 for 21 days straight since its release, on the Global Spotify chart. It now boasts of 8.98 million streams.
