Misty Copeland retires after 25 years of working as professional ballerina
Misty Copeland, American ballet dancer has finally bid farewell to her flourishing career as a "ballerina".
On October 22, the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) hosted a special event honouring her extraordinary legacy.
The "Fall Gala: A Celebration Honouring Misty Copeland" was held at David H. Koch theatre at Lincoln Center in New York City, where the 43-year-old curated a special program in which she blended some dances and videos that reflected her rise as a Principle Dancer to ultimately becoming an inspiration for the younger generation.
This whole act marked as Misty’s final bow to ballet at the 85th anniversary of ABT, from where she began her career in 2015.
At the event, Copeland also addressed how she feels on receiving this honour defining her legacy.
“It’s pretty surreal. It’s amazing to have this platform and to have this moment and to have the career that I’ve had”, she said.
Meanwhile, Misty also have a few tips and ideas to the people belonging to the next generation, who aspire to be a ballet dancer.
She added, “I think it’s really about knowing why you are doing this and believing in yourself.”
Copeland further encouraged the aspiring Ballerinas to surround yourself with people who encourage you and will be there for you on days when you feel exhausted.
“For young people, it is important to remember why you do it… for the joy, the love and the passion of it,” concluded Misty.
