Louvre Museum heist: ‘Priceless’ Napoleon-era jewels worth revealed

The jewellery stolen from the Louvre Museum Paris on Sunday, October 19, 2025, is estimated to be worth €88 million.

Previously, the stolen jewels from Napoleon’s collection were described as being of “inestimable” value but now a French prosecutor has revealed the true value of lost items, citing a museum’s curator.

The “extraordinary” heist pulled by thieves in just eight minutes from the world’s most visited museum marked a devastating blow to France’s historical heritage.

Prosecutor Laure Beccuau told RTL that she disclosed the value in the hope that the thieves would not destroy them.

She added that robbers will not pocket the full windfall “if they had the very bad idea of melting down those jewels.”

It has been revealed that thieves took crown jewels gifted by two Napoleons to their wives among other items in what appears to be a “meticulously planned heist”.

Here’s a list of the items taken from the Louvre Museum:

• Diamond and emerald necklace gifted by Emperor Napoleon to his wife
• A tiara worn by Empress Eugenie
• Several pieces from Queen Marie-Amelie’s jewellery

None of the four masked thieves has been caught as the museum remains closed until further notice.

French President Emmanuel Macron declared the robbery an attack on French heritage and vowed to bring culprits to justice.
