Prince Harry’s former charity takes brutal blow at Duke with big move

Prince Harry, who abruptly exited his beloved charity Sentebale following a boardroom battle in March 2025, received a scathing dig as the organisation undertakes a major change.

The Duke of Sussex has expressed his love for Polo and has often held fundraising matches for his charities. The sport holds popularity with the royal family and is often deemed as something that the elite and privileged could indulge in.

Now that King Charles’s son is no longer the trustee of the African charity, they have completely scrapped its fundraising polo matches after the row.

A member of Sentebale’s board of trustees, Iain Rawlinson, revealed that the reason behind the move had been putting “quite a lot of pressure on individuals” and it “mask structural weakness in the financial model of the charity”.

“These polo games, which attract great generosity from high-net worth individuals or funds who want to support the charity,” he told the Telegraph, noting that they are not undermining the events and “not being critical about that as a concept”.

The move part of rebranding Sentebale before its 20th anniversary next year, after the investigation of harassment and misogyny allegations.

He explained that the charity has been experiences losses since 2017 despite the generous donations of Prince Harry. Following the exit of the Duke, they are no focussed on making a “more resilient financial model, which is not dependent on a single patron, for example”.

The news may come off as upsetting for the Duke of Sussex, who founded the charity with Prince Seeiso, in 2006 as a tribute to his late mother Princess Diana.
