Judge crushes Diddy's hope for reduced sentencing after guilty verdict
Sean 'Diddy' Combs and his family pleaded for leniency before his sentencing for two prostitution charges
Sean “Diddy” Combs’ hopes for a massively reduced sentence have been crushed.
The music mogul’s sentencing officially began in the early hours of Friday, October 3, in a federal courthouse in New York City. His family — including his mother, Janice Combs, and six of his seven children — arrived in court in a show of solidarity, and some of his children are also expected to speak.
Combs, 55, was found guilty on two prostitution charges in May. His prosecutors are pushing for a sentence of 11 years and three months in prison, while Combs’ lawyers insist he should receive no more than 14 months.
In the lead-up to the sentencing, Combs and his family wrote multiple letters to Judge Arun Subramanian — who is presiding over the case — pleading for leniency. The Bad Boy Record founder admitted to making “mistakes” but insisted that he will never repeat them.
However, Jude Subramanian said he “did not see a basis for departure from sentencing guidelines, and said he will make sure to impose a sentence that is sufficient but not greater than” the advisory guidelines which suggest a sentencing of 70-87 months in jail (five to seven years), as reported by CBS News.
The Judge also declared that Combs can not receive sentencing adjustment for “acceptance of responsibility,” noting that Combs “denied the facts of guilt” and “did not express remorse for the charge of transporting people for prostitution” during his trial, according to NBC News.
