Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, has posted an unusual job listing.

The company is on the lookout to onboard a “Video Games Tutor” to train Grok, its AI chatbot, in the mechanics, storytelling, and design of video games.

Because Elon Musk is hiring a full-time “Video Games Tutor” who will get paid between $45 and $100 per hour, according to the job listing.

Other roles listed in the job post include, besides teaching Grok, how games work, the tutor will also help it generate creative, playable game content.

According to the job posting, tutors will work with xAI’s closed-source software to provide thorough annotations and feedback to guide revisions.

Their tasks include branding data, analyzing gameplay, and enhancing Grok’s ability to grasp design elements, narratives, and mechanics.

Collaborating with the technical staff is part of the position, ensuring that human creativity shapes how Grok interprets and recreates the essential parts of a game.

The position requires strong academics, coupled with a background in game design, computer science, or related fields.

Candidates are expected to have hands-on experience, especially in indie game development, and must possess a portfolio of previous projects.

The job opening is at xAI’s Palo Alto office; however, there is a remote option for candidates who can demonstrate strong self-motivation and discipline.

Remote applicants must be based in the U.S.  but cannot apply if they reside in Wyoming or Illinois, and the position doesn’t offer visa sponsorships.

If gaming is not your forte, xAI was hiring for more than 230 other roles as of Thursday, October 2, 2025, including a fiber technician in Tennessee, a lead Grok engineer in California, a remote AI Japanese tutor, and a barista in Palo Alto.
