Taylor Swift is setting the bar sky-high as her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, crashed Spotify for the sixth time.
While it was widely expected that she would be smashing records with her 12th album, it didn’t take long for the pop superstar to rewrite the history as her album drop has caused the music streaming platform to crash due to overwhelming demands.
Shortly after the follow-up to last year's The Tortured Poets Department hit streaming platforms, fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce, "Taylor Swift has officially crashed Spotify for the 6th album time!"
Several users reported being unable to access the album as the platform struggled to keep up with the massive traffic surge.
According to outage tracking site DownDetector, nearly 900 users reported issues, with 65% of complaints coming from Spotify iOS and Android apps crashing during attempts to stream the new album.
While some fans expressed frustration with one writing, "SO I WOKE UP AT 5 AM FOR THE LIFE OF A SHOWGIRL JUST FOR SPOTIFY TO CRASH DOWN @Spotify FIX YOURSELF & DO IT QUICKLY," many celebrated the chaos as a badge of honour.
"Even though Spotify is down…I’m still hella happy!!! Happy release day #swifties," one commented enthusiastically.
Another boasted, "Is it a Taylor release day if Spotify does not go down?" wrote one, sharing a screenshot of the issue.
Notably, this isn’t new for Swifties as Taylor’s previous albums also caused similar the music streaming platform meltdowns.
Her previous albums that overwhelmed Spotify's servers include:
Interestingly, when The Tortured Poets Department dropped, Spotify managed the traffic surge more smoothly with advanced preparation, including pre-save features and content delivery networks (CDNs) designed to reduce bottlenecks.
