Jennifer Lopez ‘regrets’ losing ‘Evita’ role to Madonna ahead of new film
Jennifer Lopez opens up abour ‘bitter-sweet’ audition loss to Madonna
Jennifer Lopez recently recalled auditioning for Alan Parker’s Evita ahead of the release of her upcoming film Kiss of the Spider-Woman.
The 56-year-old star, who rose to fame after her leading role in the 1997 biopic Selena, revealed that the role ultimately went to Madonna.
In an exclusive conversation with Variety, Lopez said, “I had been practicing for weeks and I sing my heart out and [Parker] goes, ‘You’re amazing. You know Madonna has the part, right?’ I said, ‘OK, bye-bye. Nice to meet you.’”
Notably, the Queen of Pop portrayed Argentinian First Lady Eva Perón.
In addition, Parker’s musical received five nominations at the 1997 Academy Awards and won the Oscar for Best Original Song.
The film not only performed exceptionally well at the box office but also bagged several nominations for its top-notch delivery.
The multi-hyphenate star opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about auditioning for the same role when Kiss of the Spider-Woman premiered at the Sundance Film Festival back in January. She told the outlet, “I remember auditioning for Evita, I remember auditioning for Chicago and for Nine — getting very close on Nine. There were a lot of things that I had always hoped I could do, and it just wasn’t the right time. But this is the right thing.”
For the unversed, Lopez is currently gearing up for her first-ever film musical nearly three decades later.
