King Charles turning things around for Prince Harry
King Charles faces divided opinion as calls for Harry’s royal return grow louder
King Charles appears to be quietly laying the groundwork for a potential reconciliation with Prince Harry which could reshape the royal family's future.
Sources close to the palace suggest that the King remains open to healing the rift with his younger son, despite the deeply personal challenges that have strained their relationship in recent years.
While the path forward is delicate, insiders say Charles is taking a long-term view. “He’s always maintained that Harry is his son, first and foremost,” said one royal observer.
“Whatever has happened publicly, the bond of family still matters deeply to him.”
That sentiment has never entirely disappeared, even during the most turbulent moments since 2020, when Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back as senior royals in a decision that stunned the world.
Though Buckingham Palace called their departure “saddening,” it also emphasized that the Sussexes would remain “much loved members of the family.”
Nearly five years on, that message may be more than symbolic. Royal watchers have noted subtle shifts in tone from the palace, with less emphasis on past grievances and more room for future dialogue.
A potential turning point came during King Charles’s recent health challenges, which reportedly prompted private communication between father and son. It is a sign that shows the doors to reconciliation may never have fully closed.
Public opinion remains sharply divided. A recent Royal Club poll conducted by Hello! Magazine revealed that 57% of respondents were against welcoming Harry back into the royal fold, while 38% were in favour.
But beyond the numbers, it was the intensity of feeling that stood out as proof that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex still spark fierce debate.
Much of that emotion stems from the fallout of Harry and Meghan’s decision to speak out against the monarchy, from high-profile interviews to the Netflix docuseries and Harry’s memoir Spare.
For some, those revelations crossed a line; for others, they were an honest attempt to reclaim personal agency.
Even so, there are signs the firm may be softening. King Charles has notably avoided public condemnation of his son, choosing instead to model restraint and dignity.
