Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce pals are ‘thrilled’ over couple’s engagement
Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce shared news with friends right after engagement
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s loved ones didn’t have to wait long to share in their joy.
“Taylor and Travis’ friends are thrilled for them, and a lot of them found out about the engagement right after it happened,” a source tells PEOPLE.
“Keeping it quiet wasn’t easy but now that it’s out, everyone’s just excited.”
The singer and the Kansas City Chiefs star, both 35, confirmed their engagement on Aug. 26 with a lighthearted Instagram post that read, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” closing with a dynamite emoji in a nod to their “TNT” nickname.
Kelce proposed earlier in the month in his backyard during a garden setting he designed for the moment.
He worked with Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry to create the ring, which features an old mine brilliant cut diamond in a vintage-inspired design.
The announcement came nearly two years after Swift was first seen at a Chiefs game in September 2023, marking the start of their public romance. While fans are eager for wedding updates, those close to the couple say there’s no rush.
“Right now they just want to enjoy being engaged, and they are going to take their time with it,” a source previously shared.
“It has been a relief not having to keep it a secret anymore and they are glad it is out in the open,” the insider added.
“Both families are overjoyed. There were toasts, happy tears and everyone is thrilled for them. Friends have been stopping by and sending little gifts. It has all been intimate, nothing over the top.”
Kelce himself knows what’s coming next. On the Sept. 3 episode of his New Heights podcast with brother Jason, he joked, “Oh, it’s gonna go crazy. That is the next step, yeah, I’ve heard about that.”
Jason has also teased his hopes to be part of the big day, saying on another podcast, “Trav has a lot of friends, I’m just hoping to get the opportunity.”
