Demi Moore gives rare glimpse into Bruce Willis’ battle with dementia
Hollywood actress praises Bruce Willis’ current wife Emma Heming’s compassion amid frontotemporal dementia
Demi Moore has recently offered rare glimpse into her ex-husband Bruce Willis’ battle with dementia.
The Substance actress shared her experience with the action star’s condition during an appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s podcast.
While speaking to Emma about the process of looking after Bruce, the media mogul played a clip from Demi’s interview in the middle of their conversation.
“It's difficult. It’s hard to see somebody who was so vibrant and strong and so directed shift into these other parts of themself,” said the 62-year-old.
Reflecting on the people suffering from dementia, the Ghost actress explained that it’s so “important” to meet them where they are at.
“Don’t have an expectation of them needing to be who they were or who you want them to be, and when you do that, I find that there is an incredible sweetness and something that’s soft and tender and loving,” explained the G.I. Jane actress.
Demi believed in “showing up and being present” for Bruce because if she thinks “where it’s going” this will “only create anxiety”.
“If you replay where it was and what you’ve lost, it only creates anxiety and grief,” mentioned the Indecent Proposal actress.
Demi however noted that if she stays present, “there is still so much of him there”.
Meanwhile, the Striptease star lauded Emma during her new Oprah interview, saying, “There is no roadmap for how to deal with this.”
“And obviously, being the ex-wife, even though our family is very connected, is an interesting position, and so much fell on Emma to really figure this whole thing out,” she continued.
Before concluding, Demi added that she has “so much compassion” for Emma.
“I really think she’s done a masterful job,” gushed the actress.
