The United Kingdom (UK) is bracing for a heatwave next week as temperatures in some areas are expected to rise up to 33C.

It is anticipated that the southern areas of Britain will experience the first heatwave of the summer holidays on Sunday or Monday as families are expected to head to parks and beaches to enjoy sunshine.

A yellow heat health alert has been issued by the UK Health Security Agency from 12pm on Monday to 6pm on Wednesday for all of England except the North.

The warning covers the areas of Yorkshire, Humber, London, East Midlands, South East and South West, East of England.

As experts fear increased death rate among those aged 65 and over, the London Fire Brigade has also issued several guidelines:

  • Don’t use disposable barbecues
  • Properly dispose of cigarettes
  • Take rubbish home if no bins are available

The temperature threshold for a heatwave is 25C to 28C and it is officially recorded when the temperature of an area increase to a certain level for three consecutive days.

The Met Office has released the following temperature forecast for London:

  • 26C (79F) tomorrow,
  • 28C (82F) on Sunday,
  • 31C on Monday (88F),
  • 33C (91F) on Tuesday,
  • 28C or above on Wednesday and Thursday

This is not the first heatwave of the season as the country has already sweated through three heatwaves. Temperature soared above 30C last month prompting yellow heat health warnings.
