Jaime King faces lawsuit by law firm over unpaid debt
Jaime King owes law firm and celebrity lawyer thousands of dollars as unpaid fees
Jaime King is facing legal trouble over a nearly $100,000 debt tied to her divorce from ex-husband Kyle Newman, as revealed in court documents obtained by Us Weekly.
The actress is being taken to court by the well-known law firm Wasser, Cooperman & Mandles—where high-profile attorney Laura Wasser is a partner—for allegedly failing to pay $98,441.16 in legal fees, along with an additional $2,000 in interest.
The debt dates back to a court order issued during King and Newman’s divorce proceedings. According to that order, King was required to pay the law firm fees incurred by her ex.
The judge stated clearly that, “It is appropriate that [Jaime], the high earner in the marriage, pay those fees and she already agreed to do so.”
She was given 30 days to make the payment, or the firm had the right to pursue her directly for the money.
Now, the law firm has requested that King appear in court and provide details about her assets and bank accounts in order to collect the debt. The court has warned that failure to appear at the scheduled hearing could lead to her arrest.
A representative for King responded to the filing, telling the outlet, “This is the first time Jaime or her current legal team have been made aware of this filing.”
The statement went on to explain that she has endured years of legal stress and emotional strain.
“The continued media attention on the mounting financial and emotional costs of this unnecessarily aggressive divorce highlights the unrelenting pressure Jaime has faced.
For years, she has endured fear tactics and legal intimidation while doing everything in her power to protect her children and rebuild a stable life for them. Jaime remains committed to the healing for her family, and moving forward with grace. We respectfully ask for privacy and compassion during this time.”
King, 46, and Newman, 49, married in 2007 and split in 2020. In 2023, they reached a divorce settlement where both agreed to share custody of their two sons, James Knight and Leo Thames.
