Eminem recalls 'scary' life-changing moment for him and daughter Hailie
Eminem's new documentary, 'STANS' is in theatres from August 7-10
Eminem is reflecting on a moment that made him rethink fame.
In STANS, a new documentary showing in AMC Theatres from Aug. 7–10, the rap icon remembers a trip to a Los Angeles mall with a young Hailie Jade McClintock that quickly spiralled out of control.
“I remember one time me and Hailie went to the mall in L.A., it was the last time I went to the mall as me. Like, not f***ing disguised,” says Eminem, 52.
He recalled being swarmed by growing crowds, store after store.
“I picked her up and I was like, ‘C'mon kiddo. Time to go.’” But the crowd only got faster. “It literally felt like I was being chased out the f***ing mall,” he adds. “That was one of those moments when I realised, like, my life really has changed. I can’t do this anymore because I’ve got to protect my baby.”
STANS explores the complex relationship between Eminem and his massive fanbase.
Meanwhile, his now-29-year-old daughter and new mom recently told People magazine she understands the push-and-pull of living in the public eye.
“I want to share the proud, joyful moments… but I’m also intentional about keeping certain parts of our lives just for us,” she said about raising her son, Elliot, in the spotlight.
