Jimmy Kimmel showed his support for Stephen Colbert after CBS announced it will be ending The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and the Late Show franchise entirely, at the close of the 2025-26 season.
Reposting Colbert’s video on Instagram where he shared the news, Kimmel wrote, “Love you Stephen. F*ck you and all your Sheldons CBS.”
Though it’s not fully clear what Kimmel was referencing, his mention of “Sheldons” may point to CBS’ lineup of The Big Bang Theory spinoffs, starting with Young Sheldon and now Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
The news of the cancellation was confirmed by CBS, which stated the decision was “purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night” and emphasized that it “is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.”
That last part appears to allude to the ongoing acquisition talks between Paramount Global and Skydance.
Colbert, 61, shared the update with his studio audience during the taping on Thursday, July 17, and later posted the moment on Instagram.
“Before we start the show I want to let you know something that I found out just last night,” he told the crowd. “Next year will be our last season, the network [CBS] will be ending The Late Show in May.”
